Was having one of the usual chats with Kelvin just now and he mentioned that I should just 'look at it in a rational way because we are sometimes not able to look at things clearly when we are the ones involved'.
**Light bulb lights up**
How could I have forgotten this? Ha.
Ken used to drum this into us (during my 12 months) in the many discussions we had about dealing/ negotiating with our Indian (who are known to be excellent negotiators) clients, 'don't be emotional about it. take yourself out of it.'
Such a simple and rational approach and maybe even a sure-win approach, but how many of us can really put aside our emotions and look at and deal with something/ a situation in a cold hard unfeeling way?
To digress a bit, although he was and still is a complete arse, I really do bear in mind some of his 'preachings'- simple, logical and shall I say, even important in all aspects of our daily life.
His constant drumming of "Always think 3 steps ahead" has also rubbed off me. Personally, I used to think just one step ahead (quite bimbotic I reckon), and thus very often, I would be stumped when whatever it is comes swinging back at me.
I find myself dealing with situations and people differently now, abeilt in a better way I guess.
And of course there is his 'there are many ways to skin a cat". This phrase was mentioned during those many times when he wanted to give someone a hard time, or to get his way around corporate policy.
As disgusting as it sounds, I guess he has taught me some good stuff after all. I am well-trained, I say! Ha!
